One of the best things about summer is watermelon. Since I've been working and buying groceries regularly I've often thought it was odd that grocery stores no longer generally have full size watermelons, but recently I've broken down and bought two "personal size" seedless watermelons. Yesterday was a pretty good day.1) Went to a ULI tour of a Raleigh-based private equity fund's downtown office that is LEED Plantium for commercial interiors. It's a really cool adaptive reuse of a former furniture store in downtown. They did an excellent job.2) Closed a deal in Louisville. It's 276 units and about $3.5 million of equity. This weekend was the annual "Tech vs. North Carolina School Tailgate Hosted by Brian" and this year's opponent was Duke. Round two of cake building was Saturday afternoon and the results were much improved. As I told a coworker, "It wasn't perfect, but it was dang good." I used the same cake recipe, but switched to Paula Dean's caramel icing which didn't require caramelizing the sugar and spread much easier. We ate it on Sunday and everyone seemed to really enjoy it which made me happy.

My granddad's 90th birthday is on Monday so I went to work last night trying to build a cake. The only cake I've ever made is chocolate pound cake with homemade chocolate icing. Whenever there's a big event I'd like to attend in Atlanta I get homesick and it usually works out that I'm in North Carolina during said events. In 2000, I was working in Raleigh for the summer and missed the MLB All Star Game and now I'm missing all the excitement around the Final Four. Yesterday was a beautiful spring day apart from the bioterrorism clouds of pollen drifting through the air. To start the morning was First Presbyterian's second softball practice of the season and the turnout was actually pretty decent. Last night I attended Decision Night 2007 for the local high school seniors trying to decide if they will enroll at Tech in the fall. This was my second year attending and it's a great night and opportunity to share your Tech experience with future enginerds. Last night there was one potential Public Policy major in attendance and I think I convinced her she was making the right choice over UNC,
